I am a New York University Professor and I also work as a Faculty Fellow in Residence in an NYU residence hall. Every fall semester I make a point of taking a group of First- or Second-Year NYU students on one of Andrew’s Gay History of the Village Walking Tours. Although these students live and go to class in the Village, many of them have never taken the time to explore the history of the very streets they live on. To watch a 19-year old gay student see the Stonewall site for the first time or listen to Andrew tell his stories is to literally see their eyes open wider. Often the best experiences I have had of these tours are the lively conversations the students have after; on more than one occasion it has resulted in new friendships or in a student even changing the focus of their research. Andrew’s tours are a gem
